MENORCA OPEN KAYAK MEET 2013

  • The Menorca Open Kayak Meet 2013 is a non-competitivesporting event open to all paddlers above 14  years of age.
  • Essential requirement: to know how to swim.
  • Registration is not open to pregnant women.
  • The start and end times as well as the itinerary shall be confirmed by the organizer three days prior to the event.
  • The start and end locations shall be located at the extremity of the beach selected by the organizers.
  • It is absolutely forbidden to paddle into the zones that have been marked-off for swimmers.
  • All participants shall start at the same time.
  • The type of craft that is permitted in this event are the following: self-bailing, sit-on-top, unsinkable kayaks. Each paddler must wear a lifejacket; there will be no exceptions to this rule.
  • All participating craft must be in good sea-going condition and meet all safety standards.
  • The kayak crews must respect and abide by all the instructions given by the organizers and safety team.
  • Kayaking shall take place in a compact group; all solitary kayaking is forbidden.
  • Clearly identifiable members of the organization shall be in kayaks at the head and at the rear of the group.
  • The organizers shall not be responsible for any participants who fail to stay within the traced route.
  • The organization shall be not responsible for accidents caused by negligent behavior of the paddlers.
  • The participants shall respect all designated group meeting points selected by the organizers.
  • Voluntary abandonment by paddlers or expulsion from the event upon decision by the organizers during the crossing, for safety reasons, shall be facilitated by the support craft provided by the organizers.
  • Prior to each start each participant must be on the list found at the control points where they will receive a race entry bib. The control points will close 15 minutes prior to each race.
  • The participants must wear the entry bib in a visible location on their body for the entire route, and during all legs of the outing.
  • The organization shall not be responsible for the kayakers who are not present at the start time and place.
  • The organizers reserve the right to interrupt the event at any time for any reason they deem sufficient.  
  • Other craft that are not part of the event may not accompany the participating crafts.
  • The participating crafts shall in no way hinder the normal routes of other boats, and must get out of their way and heed their signals.
  • The owners of the participating crafts are solely responsible for their craft when left at the beach and must be anchored in places that do not perturb the beach-going public.
     
  • The organizers shall not be responsible for damages to material and equipment which does not belong to the organization.
  • In case of unfavorable weather conditions, the organizers may decide to change the route of the event or to suspend the event. The non-acceptance of the alternative route or of the decisions made by the head organizer shall lead to immediate expulsion from the crossing.
  • The participants shall agree to respect the environment and to not leave any refuse in their wake.
  • By signing the event participation sheet the participants accept that the organization may use their images in whatever format they deem convenient, whether digital or non-digital.
  • The registration for the popular kayak event implies the acceptance of these rules.
  • The organizers reserve the right to make any changes to the program which they considers necessary for the best possible organization of the event.
